Lessons

"Lessons Learned," an in-depth, critical examination of long-term operations and policies is the hallmark of American military planning. Only through careful, arms-length analysis can failures and flaws be identified, corrective course changes be made for the benefit of future operations and systems. The history of the U.S. Military Advisors program is not static, but, rather an emerging field that continues to evolve to meet the ever-changing complexities of the battlefield as well as contemporary political realities. Veteran Military Advisors share their "Lessons Learned," missteps, mistakes and pitfalls that can only be avoided through personal experiences.

“We will need advisors in Iraq for the forseeable future. No matter how well they are able to perform, there will be a lingering requirement for an advisory effort – Tactics – Weapons – Intell – Technology. The world has changed – You cannot fight the way we did in World War II or Vietnam for that matter. It will be a long time before the Iraqi Army will be effective or solidified.”
